Personal Development & Citizenship
Personal Development Curriculum
At Weare Academy, we recognize the primary years as a crucial time for children to shape their identity and aspirations. Beyond academics, we provide opportunities for personal growth through our curriculum and wider experiences. We play a vital role in preparing children for adulthood, equipping them with the values and skills to engage positively in society. The experiences we offer at Weare Academy help shape their future, fostering the core values we uphold.

Protected Characteristics
At Weare Academy, we ensure that every child understands:
- There are no outsiders in our school.
- Everyone is different, and we celebrate those differences.
- We are all equal in our uniqueness.
The Equality Act 2010 protects everyone in Britain from discrimination, harassment, and victimisation. It identifies nine Protected Characteristics:

We actively promote these values through:
- Our school values, behaviour policies and vision statement
- Collective Worship and curriculum discussions
- PSHE, RE and RSE
- Role modelling by staff and engagement with families
- Pupil Voice initiatives like the School Council and Play Leaders
- Extra-curricular activities, educational visits, and guest speakers
By embedding these principles, we foster:
- Self-esteem, confidence, and responsibility
- Respect for democracy, diversity, and the rule of law
- An inclusive mindset, where differences are valued and discrimination is challenged
At Weare Academy, everyone is valued, respected, and welcomed to thrive.
British Values
The Department for Education requires all schools to promote fundamental British Values: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
