Welcome to Weare Academy CofE First School

I warmly welcome you to Weare Academy CofE First School.

Our school is a fantastic place to learn, play and work – in beautiful, rural surroundings and at the centre of a supportive village community. I am very proud to be part of this ambitious, happy and caring school where children are firmly at the heart of everything we do.

As a small, village school, we have just five classes (Reception to Year 4) for children aged 4-9 years. We pride ourselves on making this an inclusive school with a tight-knit, family feel. We have high expectations for every child and every member of our staff team is committed to our Vision that ‘All Can Achieve’. We believe that each child is unique and possesses their own set of talents and abilities, and it is our mission to help them discover and develop these qualities.

Many of our families make use of our daily Breakfast and Afterschool clubs which are run by existing school staff. As such, we are able to ensure that the provision meets the excellent standards we strive to maintain. We are also very proud of our Rainbow Woods Preschool which is open to children aged 2 to 4-years. Our highly experienced and caring Early Years team are committed to providing the very best early years education and aim to provide a home-from-home environment in which children can thrive.

At Weare Academy, we are committed to providing high-quality education in an environment where curiosity and creativity can be nurtured, inspiring a lifelong love for learning in our pupils. Following our most recent inspection in December 2022, Ofsted judged the school to be ‘Good’ in all areas. We have also been judged as ‘Outstanding’ in our 2018 Diocese statutory inspection.

I hope you enjoy exploring our website further. We welcome visitors to the school and as always, if you have any queries please do get in touch.

A Church of England School

As a Church of England School, we recognise and embrace our historic Christian foundation. In January 2013 and then in 2018, the National Society judged that, “The distinctiveness and effectiveness of Weare Academy Church of England First School, as a Church of England school are ‘Outstanding’…There is a strong commitment to the development of the whole child, within the context and environment of an extremely supportive school community.”

The History of our School

In 1895, Weare School, was built upon its present site. The school was funded mainly by the largesse of the Luttrell family and other local noteworthies. In present years, the school buildings have been renovated and extended to accommodate over 150 pupils in five classes from reception to year 4. More recently, in 2016, the school incorporated a pre-school facility, for 2-9 year old’s within the site; ‘Rainbow Woods Pre-school’

On 1st April 2011, the school’s excellence was recognised by the coalition government and it became the first Primary School in Somerset, and the first ‘First School’ in the country to be awarded academy status. On September 1st 2016, the school became a partner in the multi-academy Wessex Learning Trust.
